The Walton family has selected BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) to design the campus for a new STEM-focused university planned for downtown Bentonville. Located on the former Walmart Home Office site, the university is expected to welcome its first students in 2029 and will focus on preparing graduates for careers shaped by artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
The initial campus plan includes approximately 422,000 square feet across three core facilities:
The campus is designed to integrate with Bentonville's downtown, parks, and trail system, creating a strong connection between students and the surrounding community.
University leaders envision the institution as a catalyst for workforce development, entrepreneurship, and regional economic growth. The university will emphasize industry partnerships and practical learning experiences designed to connect students with real-world opportunities.
The new university joins several major projects that are reshaping Northwest Arkansas, including Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the Alice L. Walton School of Medicine, and Heartland Whole Health Institute. Together, these investments continue to strengthen Bentonville's reputation as a growing hub for innovation, education, and talent development.
Additionally, tuition is expected to be fully covered during the university's initial years, helping increase access to STEM education while supporting the region's future workforce needs.
